In January 1999, the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) released the WebCGM profile as a W3C recommendation.
This new profile describes the use of CGM vector graphics on the Internet. The WebCGM profile has been developed in close cooperation with the CGM Open Consortium.
The use of CGM graphics based on the WebCGM profile ensures the interoperability between different systems. CGM graphics created with any WebCGM compliant authoring tool can be viewed with any WebCGM compliant browser such as IsoView.
IsoDraw 5 supports WebCGM. Organizations using IsoDraw 5 can now deploy illustrations on the internet based on an international standard. Thus it becomes possible to provide illustrations online and current at all times.
ITEDO is a co-founder of the CGM Open Consortium and has been involved in the definition of the WebCGM profile. Dieter Weidenbrueck is a member of the board of CGM Open. More information about WebCGM and CGM Open can be found at www.cgmopen.org.
